The Lethal Weapons – OK Synthesizer [REVIEW]

This album is bizarre.

The Lethal Weapons are a duo based in Japan that makes 80s and 90s-inspired music. They released their latest album OK Synthesizer on September 20th. And that is what I’m here to talk about.

The first single from the album spanned all the way back to 2022 with Catcat Heaven feat. Sumire Uesaka. The next singles followed until the release of the album.

Yes, they basically dropped the whole album, kinda.

Now I don’t remember what each song sounds like, as it’s been a while since I heard some of these tracks. So I will focus on the ones that I’ve just heard.

Virtual currency samba

I’m not making this shit up, it’s called Virtual Currency Samba.

Now this song is extremely catchy and drives off of, well, you guessed it, samba. It adds samba beats with a driving synth. Cyborg Joe nailed his part. The part that I have a problem with is that the song reminds me of the movie Rio a little too hard. That’s it. Great job. Overall rating: 9.5/10, complete ear worm.

Weather Report

They do indeed sing about the weather here. Sunny, nice weather, in fact. We get vocals from Ai-Kid as well, which surprised me as I’m not accustomed to hearing his voice on a song.

I do have a problem with Cyborg Joe’s singing in the first half of the song as it feels deadpan, and also, he gets overshadowed by Ai-Kid. He does improve in the later half of the song, though, don’t worry.

Overall rating: 8/10

BOUZU, SUMMER DAY OF GENESIS, AND MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

The latter is named after the movie and is an adaption of the movies theme. That’s pretty cool. Overall rating for MI: 7/10, not bad.

Summer day of GENESIS

This wasn’t a very likable song for me. So wasn’t BOUZU. Well, that just means that not every song you’ll like. And that’s okay, there are still good songs to others.

Overall rating for GENESIS: 6/10, didn’t enjoy it very much, but it did have its catcher parts.

Overall rating for BOUZU: I straight don’t remember this song, but I believe I rated it on first listen a 8/10.
